If you buy tunes from stores like Bleep / Beatport / iTunes, which ones do you use? What do you like about them? What don't you like about them? What would you like them to do that they don't do?

I only buy high quality audio, like .wav, or .flac files, as I hate it to spend money on compressed lose files that sound undynamic. Would you like to buy mp3 cd's in your record store (to play on your high end systems) ? A pitty that prices are quite high for those formats. It's still cheaper to buy it on cd, BUT, in our domain there isn't much underground stuff (besides Salamat
What I also miss with digital stores, is the personalisation of music, like some words of info, a story, little pics, those thank'you's to the mates, etc... . This would be possible now, as iPod's and iAudio's, etc... are offering now portable music, pics and video, this could be a next step... projects with vj's, designers, etc., to create a beautiful package that will be worth the price, and make it unique right away and also less P2P attractive, as such packages will take some more than 20 megs. Our scene has still a long way to go... but with our spirits, we will even beat those huge, slow, money based commercial labels, and take music to the next step. My 2 cents |

^^ yeah, that's what I'm working on. I don't know about cover art, because most music-people are not designers, but I really dig the idea of track info / how I wrote this song / why I wrote this song being included in a release.
Would you pay $3.00 for a .wav file of a track? |

Let's say $1.50 to max $2.00, and for an exclusive, max $2.50 (for 1-2 weeks).
I must admit that I buy those wav files on Beatport, and often those are exclusives You could make a system to let older tracks getting cheaper (an idea) : exclusive: $2.29 new: $1.79 one month old: $1.59 three months old: $1.29 six months old: $0.79 Cheers |

Thanks for the reply. : )
Personally, I dislike the idea of tracks getting cheaper as they get older. Your point about .wavs is a good one though. D'you think anyone would buy mp3s if .wavs were availible for the same price? |

Yes of course, a majority will still buy the mp3 format, as a lot of people are putting them on there portable audio players. Let's say that more quality audio = bigger files, will be a thing of the future, where the people will have large disks (>100 gigs) and fast internet connections. For now they choose the easiest/cheapest way... It's a bit the re-revolution from the cassette to the dvd, ones they all know that there's better and it can be played without worries on all their devices, they will demand it "en masse". I'm curious about the sales of .wav at Beatport, against mp3. And the evolution from when the .wav format has been introduced. Personally, I dislike the idea of tracks getting cheaper as they get older >> I don't like it either (as music doesn't get less worth), BUT, like you know, old stuff is less attractive, and often you can find it via several shops at that time. So from marketing view out, it's always better to still sell something, than to leave it onto the servers for nothing (in fact, it will cost you more to keep them there). Cheers Fraxy |

Hi,
I use beatport, djdownload, kompact and edm (RIP) all the time. I have no problem with mp3 as I don't have a big enough system to be able to tell the difference between 320kbps and wav. + when I want a track I want it now. I don't want to wait for the cd to be shipped. I think tracks should get cheaper to a point. say 1.50 unless you want to have some kind of sale to spark up the interest. |
