Quick Pacha Review - The club itself is amazing, the warm up DJ very impressive, layering Xpander on top of a nice techy funky number and generally getting it going by 5am. However the headline DJ (some cute blonde piece) was awful, played hard house mashed up with funky house and I had to leave at 6am (which is like going home at 2am at Fabric).
The blonde DJ who shall remain nameless, was like listening to Tall Paul circa 1999 and watching a younger Sandra Collins. Very odd experience. Strangely enough the crowd loved it. Although for me, the aurals were not as good as the visuals and lack of chocolate hob nobs forced my retirement to the hostel (It had been a long day and I´d only got back to BA on the late ferry from Colonia, Uruguay).
Uruguay itself is probably the best place to hang out on the streets late at night and drink mate, which is incredibly addictive stuff, bit like tea.
Although not as attractice and stylish as Porteña women (me gusta mucho), Santigueñas (thats birds from Santiago for those sleeping at the back), are usually up for a laugh and like to chat you up down the local boozer. However, after 3 litres of Brahma beer (prefer Quilmes Negra meself but they had run out of that) I couldnt keep up with the rapid fire Chilena Spanish questions. Especially the numbers as they are 1000 pesos to the pound, give or take a few hundred. SeisMilSieteCientosCinquenta. Its almost an art form how quickly they can knock those large numbers out (check out John Digweed´s latest hit which is dedicated to this phenomenon) and my Australian sparring partner and I (who had just been deported from the USA after failing the entrance questions test and back for his second month in Chile´s capital), had to call it a night. He was clearly the expert and knew all the best places, which is not surprising after a month of larging it.
However, for me, Paraguay is really where its at. The karaoke party scene in the capital Asuncion really rocks. Expect this exciting new trend to catch on in the big trendy cities like BA, Rio and Caracas soon. My personal fave at the moment is - Oreja de Vango (I think the track is called Siempre). Its well catchy. Me gusta.
Hopefully Lima will rock too, anyone know any info on Lima ?
Hasta luego amigos,
